HONG KONG. SCHOOLMISTRESS.

REQUIRED, a MISTRESS for the Government Girls' Schoni, shortly to be opened in Hong Kong. Salary 1,200 dollars per annum, payable monthly, with quarters. Passage, first-class to Hong Kong, but no subsequent passage will be paid unless the engagement is terminated by the Goverusent at the end of three years' probation, or on account of ili-health. Leave, twelve months: four months on full pay and eight months on half pay if substitute can be found) at the end of six years' service. Study of Chinese language (colloquial) obli gatory, and teacher provided by Government. The selected candidate must leave England early in January, 1890.

Duties.To organise the school with the aid of an assistant and a pupil- teacher, to instruct the upper classes of the Eagish division in the subjects of an ordinary English Middle Class School; to superintend the teaching in the lower classes of the English division, and to give general superintendence to the Chinese division already established; also to assist the Inspector of Schools in the annual examination of needlework done in the Grant-io-aid Schoots.

The proposed school is intended to provide an English education for girls of the same class as the boys now attending the Government Central Boys' School, of whom about go per cent. are Chinese and 4 per cent. European.

Candidates must be Trained, Cortificated Teachers, or Graduates of a University, hetween 22 and 28 years of age and unmarried.

They must possess experience in teaching and organising elementary Girls? Schools, and have superior knowledge of needlework, and they will be required if selected) to pass a medical examination, and also, if they have been Students in a Training College, to make arrangements for the repayment of a sum not exceeding £70 on account of the cost of their training to the Imperial Exchequer. Applications, with references and copies of testimonials, to be sent to the CROWN ACENTS FOR THE COLONIES, Downing Street, 1.ondua, S.W., not later than the 18th of November. Each candidate is recommended to forward, if possible, a special recommendation from the Principal of her Training College aud to state her qualifcations in needlework.
